[ARCHIVED] Lunch and Jazz at the High Point Museum

Lunch and Jazz 2019-2020

For the second year, the High Point Public Library and the High Point Museum are collaborating with Jazz at Lincoln Center to provide a free concert series in the coming months. The first Tuesday from October to April (except January) from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., the High Point Museum will be streaming Jazz concerts from the Lincoln Center for the public's listening pleasure.

Jazz at Lincoln Center's education department has embarked on this endeavor known as the Digital Concert Network. The Digital Concert Network is an exclusive network designed to provide free content of the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to public libraries across the country.

Each session will held at the High Point Museum, 1859 E. Lexington Ave., and will begin with a 15-minute introduction to the concert. The audience is encouraged to bring their own lunch, as lunch will not be provided. Come listen, network, collaborate, and celebrate jazz.

"We're looking forward to bringing this program series back for a second year," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "It's just a really pleasant way to spend your lunch hour."

The first concert entitled "Jazz at Lincoln Center Songbook" will be October 1. A concert that cuts right to the very soul of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) and a pillar of Jazz at Lincoln Center's mission, this music celebrates the legacy of the America's Orchestra: the big band. Focusing on new pieces by members of the JLCO, as well as JLCO-arranged versions of classic repertoire, this concert serves to highlight the vitality and richness of the big band.

The others dates and titles are:

November 5 - Nursery Song Swing

December 3 - Big Band Holidays

February 4 - Black, Brown & Beige

March 3 - The Music of John Lewis & Gerry  Mulligan

April 7 - Jazz in the 50’s Overflowing with Style
