Are old tires, appliances, outdated electronics, and personal documents cluttering up your life? Clean up your environment while protecting our environment! Load up and head out to Summer-Cycle 2017 to take advantage of convenient, secure and environmentally friendly disposal for FREE!
Guilford County residents can dispose of their electronic waste, tires, appliances and personal documents for free at Summer-Cycle 2017 on Saturday, September 23rd from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Staff from Guilford County and the Town of Summerfield will be ready to collect these waste items at the Laughlin Professional Development Center (formerly Laughlin Primary School), 7911 Summerfield Road, Summerfield. The event is open to all Guilford County residents. Business waste is not accepted through this program.
Guilford County Environmental Services is partnering with the Town of Summerfield to offer this secure, free and environmentally sound way for residents to dispose of many types of hazardous and recyclable waste they have in their homes. The event is part of the County's environmental awareness campaign: "For PETE's Sake RECYCLE!" By participating in Summer-Cycle 2017, residents keep valuable commodities and toxic materials out of our landfills, ensuring they will be reused or recycled instead.
Residents can drop-off the following items:
Tires
White goods (appliances – stoves, refrigerators, washers, air conditioners, water heaters, etc.)
E-waste, including computers, televisions, electronic games, microwaves, cell phones and any other household items with an electronic chip or a plug
Personal documents for shredding (limit of 5 file boxes per vehicle please!)
All electronic waste collected at the event will be recycled safely and securely by Synergy Recycling, an R2 certified local contractor, located just north of Guilford County in Madison, NC. Personal documents collected will be shredded onsite by ProShred Security, and the shredded paper will be recycled.
Electronics, tires, and white goods recycling services are available year-round to county residents. However, Summer-Cycle 2017 will help raise public awareness about the responsible disposal of these items, as required by the North Carolina landfill bans that prohibit their disposal in regular trash.
Summer-Cycle 2017 is sponsored by Guilford County Environmental Services and the Town of Summerfield, and is hosted by Guilford County Schools’ Laughlin Professional Development Center.
