Specialized Units

High Point Police Department specialty units are responsible for providing front-line police services to the community. The primary function of each unit is to focus on constantly reducing crime, responding to calls in a timely manner, taking all cases to an appropriate conclusion, and ensuring a sense of safety on the roadways and in the community.  These units work cooperatively with the community, surrounding city governments, and other criminal justice agencies to provide services that protect and enhance community safety through timely response to calls for service and proactive prevention and enforcement activities.

After completing two to four years of service as a patrol officer, High Point Police officers are eligible for most of the following specialized units:

  • Vice Narcotics / ABC Detective
  • Honor Guard
  • Hostage Negotiator
  • Strategic Intelligence Unit
