'Read to Me' Program
One way the Community Engagement Unit promotes education is through the 'Read to Me' program. Officers pack books into the department's Gator utility vehicle and visit children in neighborhoods, parks and other locations across the city. Children who read a book to an officer are given a prize. This is one way to promote reading skills, especially when school is out for the summer.
