City of High Point Airport Overlay (ARO) District Evaluation and Land Use Policy Recommendations
In 2021, an assessment was done to analyze the results of the Piedmont Triad International Airport Part 150 Update study to determine if any changes to the city's Airport Overlay District are warranted. The Piedmont Triad International Airport Part 150 Update is an airport noise compatibility study required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The assessment report provided information on prior airport noise studies, the Part 150 Update study's conclusions, and the Planning and Development Department's resulting recommendations for the Airport Overlay District.
The assessment resulted in three main recommendations:
- Airport Overlay District Changes
- 8 Areas of Airport Overlay District change (Areas A-H)
- Text Amendments
- Add avigation easement requirement
- Conduct Land Use Policy Evaluation
- Evaluate impact of district changes on adopted policy
- Ensure clarity in land use policy
- Determine if any land use policy changes are needed
The Land Use Policy Evaluation was recently completed and the City is now ready to move forward with implementing the district changes, text amendment, and the recommended policy changes based on the land use policy evaluation.
The city will be holding a public informational meeting on June 27, 2022 at the River Landing at Sandy Ridge Clubhouse, 1701 Iona Drive, from 5 to 7 PM, to give the public an overview of the recommendations and answer any questions.
Please review the documents in the table below and give us your feedback. Comments and questions can be submitted to AROcomments@highpointnc.gov.
Following the public information meeting, comments will be reviewed and considered prior to completing the public hearing recommendations which will be presented to and considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.
