Roots of Prosperity: High Point’s Farming Heritage
Farms have been part of the landscape of the greater High Point area since the first Native Americans cultivated corn, tobacco, beans, and squash here.
Early European settlers adopted these crops and brought their own agricultural products and methods from their homelands.
Though manufacturing became dominant, farming remained a major component of the local economy for much of the 20th Century.
